IKEA

IKEA works with a large group of employees from all of the world. Several times per year these employees work as facilitators to organize internal workshops for IKEA employees. These facilitators start giving workshops after they followed a two-day course on facilitation skills. After completing this course they bring their skills into practice. IKEA was looking for a learning solution that would enrich the existing facilitation course for employees from all over the world (47 countries). The solution? An e-mail campaign!

FACILITATION SKILLS FOR IKEA

IKEA works with a large group of employees from all of the world. Several times per year these employees work as facilitators to organize internal workshops for IKEA employees. Facilitators start these workshops after they followed a two-day course on facilitation skills.
After completing this course they bring their skills into practice. IKEA wanted to follow-up on employees after the course to support the new facilitators during their first weeks of performing their new role in the organization. One of their most important demands was that the learning solution needed to be appropriate for facilitators working in 47 different countries. 

SOLUTION

Together with IKEA we developed the e-mail campaign ‘Grow your facilitator skills – a facilitation journey’. During a period of 8 weeks, new facilitators received 9 e-mails with practical tips and tricks about various themes related to facilitation.

The e-mails are written on behalf of ‘Kate’, an experienced facilitator. Kate gives information through ‘explanimations’, shares tips, challenges the employees and encourages them to share their initiatives and results on the online IKEA community platform.

Result

The result of this project was an e-mail campaign consisting of different learning methods and assignments, through which facilitators get introduced to their new role step-by-step.

Kate’s e-mails contained short texts, are easily accessible and user-friendly. These examples, tips and ideas encourage facilitators to bring their new skills into practice and make them more confident in their new role.
