Millions of packages are send all over the world every day. Packages with an international destination are often send by plane. Often times those packages contain dangerous goods. KLM Cargo had an existing e-learning, based on the handbook Dangerous Goods Regulations about the rules of sending dangerous goods by plane. Every year all the employees completed a mandatory e-learning about this subject. However, employees experienced this mandatory online training as tough and boring.

Often times those packages contain dangerous goods. KLM Cargo had an existing e-learning, based on the handbook Dangerous Goods Regulations about the rules when it comes to cargo and dangerous goods. Every year all the employees completed a mandatory e-learning about this subject. 

However, employees experienced this mandatory online training as tough and boring. On top of it, the training took 4 hours. Air-France was searching for an attractive learning solution that would develop the right compliance knowledge and skills with a shorter time span.

We developed a ‘serious game’ for 8 different target groups. While the employees pass different levels during this game, several dangerous goods are introduced. The employees gain the required set of knowledge about the laws and regulations of dangerous goods while passing those levels. After the employees complete the game, they take the final test to prove they possess the required up-to-date knowledge. If an employee doesn’t pass the test, the serious game can be followed again. 

Result

Every employee completes a serious game in which daily real-life examples and cases are included. Every employee, from the employee who works at the check-in counter to the employee who works in the cargo hangars, will recognize the examples that are incorporated in the game. This ensures engagement and an optimal transfer of knowledge into practice.  Employees describe the training as recognizable, to-the-point and as a genuine experience. One of the biggest advantages of this training is that it only takes 40 minutes instead of 4 hours.
